One of Matilda's presents from us for her birthday were 5 plush Wizard of Oz dolls: Dorothy, Toto, the Tin Man, the Cowardly Lion, and the Scarecrow. She is obsessed with the Wizard of Oz lately and we thought these dolls would be a great gift. Tim & I were so excited to have her open the dolls, but of course she threw us for a loop with her reaction.
Instead of pure excitement, she was totally freaked out by seeing the dolls. After looking at two of the five M wouldn't look in the box anymore and kept changing the subject from the present she abandoned mid-way through opening. All we can figure was she's so used to the movie representation that another version of the characters was too upsetting. After a day she warmed up to them and now they have truly come around to be beloved toys. Dorothy is especially treasured and sleeps with M now, and the Tin Man has become her constant companion when we venture out of the house.
